About the Team

OpenAI's Industrial Compute organization is building the world's most advanced AI infrastructure ecosystem. Working alongside our cloud partners, infrastructure providers, and internal engineering teams, we operate hyperscale AI campuses that support the training and deployment of frontier AI models.

The Site Operations team serves as OpenAI's on-site operational presence, helping ensure campuses operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Industrial Compute standards. We work closely with Hardware Operations, Infrastructure Delivery, Network Operations, Security, Facilities, Construction, and our infrastructure partners to support day-to-day site execution and maintain operational readiness.

As Industrial Compute continues to expand globally, Site Operations plays a critical role in ensuring each campus is prepared to support reliable AI infrastructure at scale.

About the Role

We are seeking a Site Operations Technician to support the daily operation of Industrial Compute campuses. This role acts as OpenAI's on-site technical representative, helping coordinate activities across hardware operations, facilities, construction, logistics, security, and external service providers.

You will perform routine site inspections, support asset tracking, coordinate vendor activities, assist with operational readiness, document site conditions, and help ensure infrastructure issues are identified and resolved quickly.

The ideal candidate enjoys working in highly technical environments, is detail-oriented, and thrives in fast-paced operational settings where no two days are the same.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine walkthroughs of Industrial Compute facilities to verify operational readiness and identify potential issues.
  • Monitor site conditions and report abnormalities involving hardware spaces, network rooms, utilities, logistics areas, and common infrastructure.
  • Support coordination of vendors, contractors, and partner organizations performing work on-site.
  • Assist with hardware deliveries, inventory movements, asset tracking, and equipment staging.
  • Document operational issues and coordinate follow-up with Hardware Operations, Facilities, Infrastructure Delivery, or external partners.
  • Support physical audits of racks, equipment, inventory, and infrastructure assets.
  • Assist with site access coordination and ensure work activities comply with established operational procedures.
  • Maintain accurate operational documentation, logs, and site records.
  • Participate in operational readiness activities for new deployments, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Escalate operational risks that may impact availability, safety, or project schedules.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to continuously improve operational processes and site execution.

Qualifications

  • Have an Associate's degree, technical certification, military experience, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Have 2+ years supporting data center operations, facilities, hardware operations, manufacturing, industrial operations, or mission-critical infrastructure.
  • Have experience working in technical or operational environments requiring strong attention to detail.
  • Are able to document issues clearly and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Are comfortable working in active data center or industrial environments.
  • Are able to lift equipment, move hardware, climb ladders, and perform physical work as required.
  • Are willing to work flexible schedules, including occasional evenings or weekends during major deployments.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting hyperscale data centers or cloud infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with server hardware, networking equipment, racks, and structured cabling.
  • Experience using inventory management or asset tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of basic safety procedures for mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience coordinating contractors or external vendors.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and operational workflows.
  • OSHA, First Aid, or similar operational certifications are a plus.
